Who Are These Guys?
I've been talking about mythology for weeks now. We've even seen the trailer to Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. You've got to be wondering what I'm going on about. Well, when I was your age, I watched this movie called "Clash of the Titans". I loved it and wanted to know more. It is based around the Gods and Goddesses from Greek and Roman Mythology. See, mythology or myths were created by the people that lived thousands of years ago to explain things they didn't understand. Things like how the earth was made, what happened to people when they died, why did bad things or good things happen to people. By creating and believing in these different Gods, they were able to make some sense out of life. I always found it interesting that there was this other fantasy realm that existed in people's minds. How creative. I mean, there were flying horses, creatures of the sea and land and so many more that we're just going to have to research.
Percy Jackson is another tale, kind of like Harry Potter in that there is a hero, his quirky friends, and quests that must be undertaken. But, the world of Percy Jackson is no Hogwarts. His world is centerd around Mount Olympus where the Gods and Goddesses live. In the weeks to come, we will research the 12 Olympians in order to build our background knowledge for the book.
I am so excited and can't wait to get this started.
